Hi All! I was just thinking today how nifty it would be if premium members could have E-Mail addresses like username@zonebbs.com ... is this even a remote possibility at all? lol. Caitlin

What about Email aliases? I.e. jj@zonebbs.com would forward to another Email address, most likely the one you have registered on the site. Or would this not be nearly as cool?

Yup I think thats what they're trying to get across. LiveJournal has a premium feature like emailing. We'll use me as a example. blindvi@livejournal.com. THe email system would be on the website. but it'd be the username@zonebbs.com. I'd say it'd be best for those who pay for their membership as I'm unsure how much space it'll take but you know how big email messages can get in size. So I think it's a great idea.

I think it's a good idea. even though i have about 3 other email addresses anyway. Can't it be for non premium too, some of us can't afford to pay for premium when we have other things to pay for. i can't see why non premiums can't have it as well, good idea though.

That type of thing would be premium because of the space considerations. Especially if you had dedicated mailboxes, which would be 50-100mb in size for 1500 users.

Post 12 by alison (my ISP would be out of business if it wasn't for this haven I live at) on Sunday, 06-Feb-2005 18:03:29

hahaha, yeah probably. that's a lot ofspace hahah.

Post 13 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Sunday, 06-Feb-2005 19:28:09

Yeah aliases sounds fine to me, though I wasnt' thinking of that. But yeah, sounds good to me!!! I'd just love to ahve caitlin@zonebbs.com ... ooh-er ... looks so cool don't it? Lol!!!! Anyway, hope this might work out!

Post 14 by comanike (The Slightly Mad Aussie!) on Tuesday, 08-Feb-2005 2:41:44

yeah the aliases one is fine bye me. that way you don't have to give ya real email address out protects ya from spam and people you just don't want to have ya real email address too. *smile*

Post 15 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 08-Feb-2005 20:40:21

I'm for both the alises and the username@ZoneBBS.com. Though what do you guys about being able to create your own? Let's say you have the option.either Username@ZoneBBS.com, or SomethingElseYouPick@ZoneBBS.com (For example, JohnII@ZoneBBS.com). Of corse this would be premum. And I like the 100MB of size. Finally something is comeing a along that may push me to become a paid m member, then again... I have 250 MB with Comcast. Also about fowarding your mail from ZoneBBS.com, I think you should be able to choose which mail address you can foward that mail too. Also what about Pop3 access to your ZoneBBS.com account?

Post 16 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 08-Feb-2005 21:19:23

Ya if I did get a ZoneBBS accoutn I'd wanna access it with Outlook Express. And I think it'd be cool if you could do username@zonebbs.com or blahblahahahah@zonebbs.com or whatever ahahha. And ya I think it'd also be godo to choose which E-Mail address you forward yoru stuff to though I'm sure that'd be a given? Caitlin

Post 17 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 08-Feb-2005 23:50:40

Yay its cool to have Caitlin agreeing with me. *Smiles*

Post 18 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Tuesday, 08-Feb-2005 23:54:20

Lol um okay? Thanks? Hahaha!!! But yeh. This'd be totally nifty, and also, incidentally a good way to promote the site! like when I see a friend with a unique E-Mail address like soandso@hahaha.com, I go to hahaha.com and see what it is, so yeah. That's another way to look at this.

Post 19 by wildebrew (We promised the world we'd tame it, what were we hoping for?) on Wednesday, 09-Feb-2005 8:57:49

Hmm what about (possibly) just setting up a forwrding/mail handling server that basically forwards the emails you receive at your username@zonebbs.com address to your real address, sort of like the "email this user" feature does right now. That way no email would be sitting on the Zonebbs server and people could still obtain their addresses. This being said it'd be a cool premium member feature. :)
Cheers

Post 20 by fastfinge (I can't call it a day til I enter the zone BBS) on Wednesday, 09-Feb-2005 19:01:28

Why not a forwarding alias for standard members and a dedicated mailbox for premium? Oh, and I want 57@zonebbs.com; never mind this fastfinge stuff...I don't even log in with that. lol.

Post 21 by JH_Radio (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Thursday, 10-Feb-2005 10:02:26

Yeah, I agree with Fastfinge. So far, his idea or her idea....? Sounds like the beszt idea that I've seen on this topic That's my opinion. John

Post 22 by Chris N (I just keep on posting!) on Friday, 11-Feb-2005 2:25:27

This feature is being investigated. A couple of questions.

1. What do you think of the email addresses being at members.zonebbs.com (to show that you're a member of the site)?

2. Any problems with the email address being a variation of your Zone BBS username? For example Chris N would become chris.n@members.zonebbs.com.

Post 23 by Big Pawed Bear (letting his paws be his guide.) on Friday, 11-Feb-2005 2:36:36

i think it's all right to have members.zonebbs.com. what's wrong with that? if it ain't broke n'all that.

Post 24 by Caitlin (I've now got the silver prolific poster award! wahoo!) on Saturday, 12-Feb-2005 14:50:46

Yeah members.zonebbs.com is cool, and I guess breaking up the name would be fine too, though I don't think you oculd really break up Caitlin? Lol?

Post 25 by admin (I just keep on posting!) on Saturday, 12-Feb-2005 14:56:14

It'd only be for people with spaces and other non-email characters in their names.
